Sleeping with the Gasman by Jazz Pal-Kerr
Sleeping with the Gasman was inspired by learning over a thirty year career that many of the public did not recognise the role of anaesthetists in hospital medicine. The big surprise came when I learned that some nurse too had no idea regarding what our job entailed.
The book is written for the general public. It contains no medical terminology. Hence it is an easy read for everyone. It provides the public with an insight into our work. That arms them knowledge so they hospital with confidence and empowerment. Sleeping with the Gasman also discusses patient-anaesthetist interactions. That is an important part of our job, to remove the fear people may have.
The editor’s at the publishing house commented that the book was, “Immersive, informative and humorous”.
